Flyfishing

Welcome to the wonderful world of Flyfishing. Fly Fishing is an ancient fishing method to catch fish with artificial lures that imatate aquatic insects. Casting the weightless fly requires a special fishing line and a long rod. Fly fishermen use hand tied flies that imitate the life like bait.

Early historical records indiates that Macedonian fishermen were using artificial flies to catch fish as early as the second century. Unfortunately, little else was written about ancient fly fishing methods. It was 1496 before any major work was published describing fly fishing.

The modern type of fly fishing probably developed in England and Scotland  in the 19th Century. Early fly fishing rods were made from a tropical wood known as greenheart. Bamboo replaced greenheart as fly fishing popularity spread. Bamboo rods were further refined as American rod builders developed advanced rod building techniques that involved cutting the bamboo into strips before gluing the bamboo back together around a solid core.

Flyfishing however is more than just catching fish. It is a sport that is a addictive and one that can be enjoyed regardless of age whether your 9 years  or 90 years old, flyfishing can be enjoyed for a whole lifetime and it uniquely connects and bonds us to nature and teaches us how to respect the earths environment.
